TDE: The Infection floaty by TDE-funds

Disease & Infection

"What is this vile thing that corrupts our very souls?"

:new: - Symptom lists updated - REQUIRED CHANGE

The Infection is an un-named disease disease turned into a bio-weapon and the main source of conflict in TDE's universe which separates the living into two distinct groups; the Edeners, who escaped the bombs and live infection free in their underground sanctum and the Infected - those who were left outside to rot with their psychosis and insanity, forever to roam the wasteland of the world above, their horrible affliction unfixable, as Eden physicians struggle to find a cure to such a terrible disease.

General Information & How it Spreads

The physicians of Eden have yet to figure if the Infection is a virus or a bacteria. However they have figured out how this highly contagious disease spreads: Through multiple vectors like bites, bodily fluids such as blood and spit, water and foods tainted by infected animals or infected water, and the deadly wasteland air that, mutated by the radioactive nature of the bombs, carries the infection.

Another interesting piece of information physicians have discovered is how fast the infection can spread. (which depends on how you got infected of course.) For example, breathing in a few seconds of infected air might take up to a month for a dog to show symptoms, while being bitten on an extremity could take a few hours, and on non extremities like the face or muzzle just under an hour. But it doesn't matter if you don't show symptoms. Once you breathe in that infected air, eat that infected meat, or are bitten by a wasteland dog you can't be saved, its just a matter of time before it begins to affect your dog.

General Infection Rules

If your character is infected, they come with a set of rules. Basic and easy to follow if you pay attention. These rules will allow you to create an effective wasteland character:

- All wasteland dogs are infected, and can not enter Eden.
- Once your dog is infected, there is no going back.
- No dog is immune to the infection. None.
- Non-hostile infecteds are rare.
- You can only obtain a carrier slot through winning certain group contests and events.
- Your dog may have a class, but stages are mandatory. Not all dogs have a class.
- Your dog can't start off higher than stage 5 in most cases.
- All dogs have mandatory effects, and optional effects from the infection.
- The severity of the effects is different from dog to dog.
- Your dog may gain a minimum of 1 - 3 optional effects per stage.
- When picking optional effects, you MUST pick one personality/mental one every 3 stages your dog advances.

Infected Classes

There are multiple classes of infected and, while not all infected have a class, this system is used by the dogs of Eden to identify between the more dangerous mutations that each of the infected have; such as the full list of Muatations, and their benefits below:

Eater Class:
Eaters are another odd class of infected, these dogs though normal in terms of age and size, are constantly ravenous. Eternally hungry and with endless energy, they never gain any weight, and heal extremely quickly, making them extremely damaging to local hunting grounds. They are well known for their extreme cannibalism, and the scrawling bloodied writing and symbols that are all over their and around places they occupy.

Suffering Class:
The suffering class are an extremely dangerous variety of infected, as their defensive powers though deadly also cause damage to the infected themselves. Suffering Class infected commonly either have the ability to remove their limbs to get away quickly if trapped, or they are covered in a variety of boils and cysts, which if touched, explode in a liquid blast of acidic goo that burns the eyes and flesh of any who come in contact with it.

Bleeder Class:
Bleeders are the second rarest of classes. These giant dogs have surprisingly long lifespans due to their exposure to radiation, allowing for one or two that would have been around before the war to still be found alive. However if you ask you are not likely to get much information from them, as they are driven mad by bloodlust, their wounds never healing, and bleeding excessively making them the most infectious class.

Mutant Class:
The rarest of classes; Mutants are rarely seen, only appearing in stage 6 level dogs, but sometimes in lower stage dogs. They are the strongest of the infected, with a hairless tough hide, and discoloured eyes of black sclera and white iris. These dogs sport a wide variety of mutations such as extra limbs, keratin protrusions, and other oddities like quills or saber like teeth... But what really makes them powerful is their ability to regrow limbs, and their ability to survive a few minutes after death when decapitated.

Infected Stages

The stages of the Infection are pretty simple - upon being infected your dog will become a stage one infected, slowly devolving over time until they become a stage 5 infected. Once a dog reaches the end of stage 5- if they are even that lucky- either two things can happen. They can die, the infection unable to keep up with their bodily decay... Or something amazing can happen. At the end of stage 5, your dog may begin to feel terribly sick, its body temperature skyrocketing as it tries to find a safe hiding place to cool off, where it will begin to promptly throw up anything it has inside - bile, keratin, acid, food chunks - until your dog is entirely encased in a cocoon of the vomited matter... It may lay dormant for years, weeks, months. But when that cocoon cracks open. A stage 6 dog will emerge... hairless, and deadly with its barely noticeable mutations.

Signs & Symptoms

There are many signs and symptoms of infection and every dog reacts differently to most stages. These symptoms can vary from dog to dog. However there are some mandatory symptoms that come with each stage of the infection and some optional symptoms, your main effects being the mandatory and side effects being the optional, you must pick a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 3 optional effects every time your dog goes up a stage, it is also to be noted that it is extremely uncommon to find non-violent infected dogs:

for disassociation, is it general or can be like DID?

Disassociation and DID are very different things. DID is a who new issue on its own, dissociation on the other hand is more of a symptom and coping mechanism. (I can speak from experience here.) Dissociation is when you unintentionally shut down everything for example, when you experience a very severe panic attack. It makes you feel both disconnect from your body (ie can't move or if like me you just shut down completely and start to daydream/fall asleep while awake) and also makes your thought processes shut off. (ie you become unable to answer simple questions like whats 2+2 because you JUST CAN'T think of the answer.) It's basically like being a temporarily walking coma patient.

DID however is classified as its own disorder, and is not only more permanent but also very different from dissociation and connected to a variety of other disorders to create a giant walking mouse trap of issues. So sorry but it is nothing like DID :c

Ok thank you for clarifying ^^ I wasn't so sure cause I'm playing on making a character having DID and just want to be positive on the differences

why is "fast healing" apart of the infection :?

Its a little something the stage 6s have developed. (I can't tell you much more than that as its fairly plot heavy.)

Stage 6's are extremely mutated (an example being Mynx and Vance) so their body works differently to that of anything below stage 5 c: As such, they heal faster and can actually regrow limbs and tails and the like ^^

A bit of an awkward question, but ahma just get it out there, for the less-infecteds who may take a more-infected-than-them as a mate (thinkin'a Ramsynn, hoohoohoo!)
Can it spread/be made worse through conjugal relations? IE, if my Ramses were to have pups with Synn, would he advance to stage 2 in the infection?

Oh I just had a thought for an improvement to this journal! Since certain effects (both main and side) are indicative of certain stages, maybe beside each effect there could be a number/range for what stages would fit that effect. Since the irritability typically kicks in around stage 1 but the bleeding from the eyes/nose/mouth doesn't normally kick in until stage 3 or so.
So it would a guideline of sorts

I think that's a great idea~ I'll follow up on it with Falc, though I know there will be some overhaul to the infected stages anyway. Or at least the later stages. c: Your suggestion would make things a little more clear about what happens when though. Thanks!

Yupp! And even if there's going to be an overhaul, I know that when I was figuring out the hypothetical eater Denton it was really hard to figure out what he realistically should have had according to the journal since it meant constant scrolling and reading and rereading ouo

ok. So the infection can be spread by being bitten/scratched, drinking infected water, breathing infected air, or being born in the wasteland...But it cant be spread just by touching the infected or being breathed on?

So if one of the convoy dogs is attacked, will a coin be flipped? Or will it be determined by the character and the role they play?

The infected owner must ask the convoy owner to decide before anything can happen. Then based on the type of injury the admins will either A. Say the dog s fine B. flip a coin to decide. or C. declare the dog infected by injury severity.
